BEDDING CARE and INFORMATION
Care instuctions should be followed to properly care for your Rose Tree items, when in doubt always have it dry cleaned. This ensures the item will be properly cared for by a professional dry cleaner you know & trust who specializes in bedding and table linens should always be used. The dry cleaning process is a delicate process for these special items to make them last. You should never sign a waiver releasing a dry cleaner from responsibility for their servicce. If the item comes back damaged or in "bad shape" and you didnt take it to them in that condition, they are accountable for it. Some of our cotton comforters and items do have care instuction labels that do allow washing, but also have a sub-tag for best results have the item dry cleaned just below. A comforter or any Rose Tree item should never be mashed into an "at home" washing machine. These machines are not large enough to hold a comforter, a professional commercial size 70lb capacity washing machine and dryer should be used which are usually at a washteria, laundry-mat, or dry cleaners. These large machines allow a comforter to move freely around while being washed and partially dried. A delicate cold water washing cycle should always be used and the lowest temperature setting on a dryer. An item should not be completely dried. They should be "damp" and left to air dry to be completed. Over drying or high temperatures will cause shinkage of fabric or damage to the items. Gentle detergents should also be used to ensure the fabric protection of the item, harsh abrasive detergents can cause damage by destroying the fabric protection of the fabric. Fabric protection is a special coating to all fabrics that have a printed pattern, usually on cotton so that the ink will not wash away. Once the fabric protection coating is hurt the pattern will start to fade away or colors will bleed and you will be left with the base fabric only. Rose Tree comforters have 30 quilted circles to hold the resin treated poly batting inside the comforter in place to keep it secure. Poly batting will deteriorate of a period of time from being used, the thin coating of resin breaks down that holds the soft cotton-ball like material together in a single sheet. Folding, mashing, squashing, laying on,washing, drying and the environment of hot or cold can cause the resin to become brittle and break away from the quilted circles of the comforter that keep it in place. The average life expectency of a comforter is about 3 years depending upon how it was cared for and used (each item will vary in how long it will last depending upon use). When an item has been used or is worn out it is generally best to "spot" clean the fabric so you can keep using it. Many Rose Tree customers have owned their items for nearly a decade but this is due to the high quality of the fabric, how the item was put together and cared for by the customer. Our best "tip" to ensure the batting lasts during dry cleaning and washing is to secure it in many spots with stainless steel pins that will not rust/bleed or tear the fabric so that the poly batting around the edges stays in place and does not "bunch up". This happens to resin treated batting in comforters and is to be expected. Depending upon the age of the item it can be very slight or extreme if the batting has broken from use. Usually you can feel or see a "sag" in the fabric by using your hands where the batting might have become broken or is in a large sectioned piece. Special attention to pin the batting in this area would be needed to ensure the item gets thru the dry cleaning or washing process and still looks like new when its done. Every item needs maintainence and care to help make it last beyond the time it should have been replaced.
